Day 1 Let the journey Begin

Embarking on our whisky adventure, we leave the bustling cities of Edinburgh or Glasgow to explore the enchanting Lowland and Campbeltown whisky regions. Our journey begins as we head towards our first destination, the Glenkinchie Distillery.

Glenkinchie Distillery

Nestled in the rolling countryside, the Glenkinchie Distillery is a fine example of a traditional Lowland whisky producer. Here, we will enjoy a guided tour, discovering the history and craftsmanship behind their delicate, floral whiskies. A tasting session will follow, allowing us to sample their exquisite range of single malts.

Kingsbarns Distillery

Continuing our journey, we head to the Kingsbarns Distillery located near the charming village of Kingsbarns. Known for producing elegant and fruity whiskies, the distillery is set within an impressive, restored 18th-century building. We will take part in a guided tour and tasting, furthering our appreciation for the sublime flavours of the Lowland region’s spirits.

Lindores Abbey Distillery

Next, we venture to the historic Lindores Abbey Distillery, often referred to as the spiritual home of Scotch whisky. A captivating guided tour will lead us through the ruins of Lindores Abbey, delving into the long history of whisky production that dates back to 1494. After the tour, we’ll enjoy a memorable tasting session, savouring the delicious and unique whiskies produced by this esteemed distillery.

Overnight In Glasgow

After a day filled with enriching whisky experiences, we will make our way back to Glasgow for a well-deserved rest. Glasgow offers a wide range of accommodations to suit all budgets and preferences, ensuring a comfortable night’s stay as we eagerly anticipate the further whisky adventures awaiting us in the days ahead.

Day 2 - The Road to Campbeltown

On the second day, we will take the scenic route to the Campbeltown region. Driving through the Lowland countryside, you can enjoy the picturesque views and rolling hills. The route will allow us to explore some hidden gems along the way, including small villages and historical sites.

The Clydeside Distillery

Our first stop of the day is at The Clydeside Distillery. This distillery offers a fantastic tour, providing an insight into the history of whisky making in the area. You will learn about the unique production methods used, while also having the chance to sample some of the finest Lowland whiskies.

Auchentoshan Distillery

Before leaving the Lowland region, you will have the opportunity to visit Auchentoshan Distillery. Known for its smooth, triple-distilled whiskies, you will have the opportunity to explore the distillery’s grounds and learn about the intricate process behind this unique whisky style. A guided tasting tour will allow you to truly appreciate the flavours and complexity of Auchentoshan’s signature whiskies.

Kintyre Peninsula

Continuing on to the Campbeltown region, we will drive along the stunning Kintyre Peninsula. With its breathtaking coastline and rugged landscapes, the peninsula offers plenty of opportunities for photography and exploration. Along the way, you may spot the famous Mull of Kintyre, a headland with panoramic views of the surrounding sea and nearby islands.

Arriving in Campbeltown, you can settle in at your chosen accommodation and prepare for the exciting whisky adventures to come in this fascinating, lesser-known region of Scotland.

Day 3 - Campbeltown Whisky Distilleries

Springbank Distillery in Campbelltown

On the third day of the whisky tour, we explore the Campbeltown whisky distilleries. This region, though small in size, boasts unique characteristics and is considered as a distinct whisky-producing region in its own right. The day will be filled with visits to three renowned distilleries: Glen Scotia, Springbank, and The Machrihanish.

Glen Scotia Distillery

We begin the day at the Glen Scotia Distillery, known for its rich history and a range of flavour profiles in its whiskies. During the tour, guests will learn about the crafting process of Glen Scotia whiskies and taste a selection of their finest products. (Note that their summer shutdown period runs from 6th – 24th July, which means there will be no production to see during this time, although tours will still be conducted.)

Springbank Distillery

Next, we will head over to the Springbank Distillery for a guided tour through their traditional whisky-making process. This distillery produces three distinct single malts: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn whiskies. Each one offers a unique flavour profile, providing guests with an unparalleled tasting experience.

The Machrihanish Distillery

The final stop for the day is The Machrihanish Distillery, which showcases the rich whisky history of Campbeltown. During the visit, the group will be regaled with tales of the 33 lost distilleries that once made Campbeltown a powerhouse in whisky production. Guests will also have the opportunity to sample some rare whiskies, reflecting the tradition and craftsmanship of this region.

Day 4 - Campbeltown to Annan

After spending quality time exploring the distilleries in Campbeltown and the surrounding area, on day four of the Lowland and Campbeltown whisky tour, it’s time to head east to Annan.

The journey begins with a scenic drive through the rugged countryside, where travellers will pass by quaint villages and historical sites.

Annandale Distillery

Upon arriving in Annan, the first stop is the Annandale Distillery, known for its craftsmanship and unique whiskies. Originally established in 1836, the distillery has undergone a remarkable restoration to restore its historical character and improve its whiskey-production capabilities. Here, visitors can enjoy guided tours that provide insights into the rich history of the distillery and the whisky production process. Additionally, guests have the opportunity to taste a variety of single malt whiskies crafted at Annandale, each with its distinct flavour profile.

Day 5 - Dumfries to Edinburgh

Today we say goodbye to Dumfries and make our way home, stopping off in  the charming town of Moffat, where you will have the opportunity to indulge in its most famous culinary delight, Moffat Toffee. The Moffat Toffee Shop has been creating and selling this traditional Scottish sweet since 1884, and it’s a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth. Apart from confections, Moffat also offers a diverse range of local products including handmade crafts and souvenirs, ensuring a unique experience for all visitors.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society

Before reaching Edinburgh, the tour will make a final stop in The Scotch Malt Whisky Society private members club in Leith where you can take advantage of our membership and visit the club and purchase a few Single Cask at cask strength before ending your tour in Edinburgh or The Glasgow club if you are staying in Glasgow.
