Loch Lomond and The National Trossachs Park Scenic Sightseeing Day Tour from Edinburgh
Experience an unforgettable adventure on our Loch Lomond and National Trossachs Day Tour from Edinburgh, where you can immerse yourself in Scotland’s local culture, explore its rich history, and take in the breathtaking natural beauty of this spellbinding region in Scotland.
Departing from your chosen location in Edinburgh, your private group will travel through the Trossachs to the picturesque conservation village of Luss, located on the Bonnie, Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond.
Your visit to Luss on the Bonny Banks of Loch Lomond
With a history that stretches back over 1,500 years, Luss on the banks of Loch Lomond was once home to St. Kessog, an Irish missionary who brought Christianity to the area known as Clachan Dhu (the dark village). After his martyrdom, legend has it, his grave was covered with sweet herbs, giving the village its name—’lus’ means herb in Gaelic.
Your guide, either James or Lesley, will stroll with you along Pier Road in Luss, known for its charming stone cottages, originally built for slate quarry workers, and famous for their splendid summer floral displays. You can enjoy a cruise from Luss Pier, exploring nearby islands or admire the simply stunning scenery of the ‘narrows’ on Loch Lomond. This is a fantastic place to capture a snapshot of Scotland’s southernmost, iconic mountain, Ben Lomond.
We will then visit the graveyard at Luss Parish Church, built in 1875. There, you will have the opportunity to discover a Viking Hogback Stone, thought to date back to the 11th century. This stone offers a fascinating glimpse into the village’s history.
Visiting the National Trossachs Park
Your visit to the Trossachs National Park takes you deep into the country of notorious outlaw, Rob Roy MacGregor, whose exploits were romanticised by the Scots novelist Sir Walter Scott, and later depicted in the 1995 film, Rob Roy.
Our sightseeing tour takes us over the Dukes Pass from Aberfoyle to Loch Katrine through the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, passing by the glistening Loch Achray, Loch Katrine and Loch Venacher.
The pass between Loch Achray and Loch Katrine defines the true Trossachs, known for its rugged little hills and valleys, heather-covered crags, and dense birchwood forests.
Our visit to Loch Katrine in the Trossachs
A fun fact for you…did you know that the historic Loch Katrine Aqueduct, built during the Victorian era, supplies water to over 1.3 million residents across Greater Glasgow and the central belt?
For over 180 years, steamships have sailed on Loch Katrine. You might wish to book on one of the daily cruises at the birthplace of Scottish tourism. You can enjoy a classic cruise on the newly restored historic steamship, Sir Walter Scott.
The Steamship Sir Walter Scott resumed sailing on Loch Katrine in 2023 after a successful “Save Our Steamship” campaign. With generous public support and grants, £850,000 was allocated for its restoration.
