Outlander locations Tour From Glasgow
Calling all Outlander fans! If you’ve ever dreamed of stepping into the world of Claire and Jamie, this tour will bring your fantasies to life with a dash of history, a bit of Highland humor, and a whole lot of Scottish charm. Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander has swept fans around the globe into the story, and now, we’re inviting you to see some of the show’s most iconic filming spots in person. Grab your tartans, and let’s set off on an adventure through time – no standing stones required!
The Historic Village of Culross (Cranesmuir)
First up, we’ll visit the beautifully preserved village of Culross, or as Outlander fans know it, Cranesmuir! With its cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, and 17th-century charm, Culross is like stepping into another era. We’ll wander through the very spots where Geillis Duncan lived and some of the town’s most intriguing scenes unfolded. You might half expect to see Geillis herself popping out from behind a corner! It’s a place rich with atmosphere, and with your guide filling in behind-the-scenes stories, you’ll truly feel the magic of Cranesmuir.
The Stately Hopetoun House
Then it’s on to Hopetoun House, the architectural gem that became the Duke of Sandringham’s residence and more! Fans will recognize this stunning estate from Claire and Jamie’s time in France, Helwater, and, of course, the Duke’s lavish quarters. With its grand rooms, sweeping staircases, and picture-perfect gardens, Hopetoun House exudes a luxury worthy of the screen! It’s a spot where you can almost imagine yourself back in the 18th century, rubbing shoulders with lords, ladies, and (in our case) Jamie and Claire!
Blackness Castle – The Ship That Never Sailed
Next, we’ll arrive at Blackness Castle, a fortress with a view! Known as the “ship that never sailed,” this mighty fortress sits on the edge of the Firth of Forth and was the perfect choice for Black Jack Randall’s Fort William headquarters. The castle’s walls tell tales of battles, prisoners, and intrigue – all perfect ingredients for a villain like Black Jack! Don’t worry, though; he won’t be lurking around these days, so you’re free to explore without fear of falling into his clutches.
Midhope Castle (Lallybroch!)
Finally, the tour’s grand finale – Midhope Castle, the beloved Lallybroch! For Outlander fans, this 16th-century tower house needs no introduction. This is the family seat of Clan Fraser, Jamie’s ancestral home, and it’s got all the rugged charm you’d expect from such a storied location. As you stand before Lallybroch, you’ll feel that powerful connection to the story that has captivated your heart. It’s the perfect spot to wrap up our day, and we’ll make sure you have plenty of time for photos (and maybe even a moment of reflection – no shame in getting misty-eyed!).
