Stirling Castle and The Trossachs
Perched on a vast volcanic rock and overlooking the city and surrounding area Stirling Castle was the key to the Kingdom of Scotland, changing hands between the Scots and English no less than eight times over 50 years during the Wars of Independence.
Upon arrival, you will be free to roam and take in your surroundings or pick up one of the official castle tours, which start on the hour.
When you are finished exploring the castle we will journey through the Trossachs and the bustling town of Callander. Often described as the gateway to the highlands this picturesque town reflects the Scotland of yesteryear.
Meet Some Hairy Highland Cows
A few miles along the road we will stop to meet the most famous locals, the hairy highland cows Hamish Dhu, Honey and the new addition Baxter who are always happy to pose for a photo in return for a carrot or two. This is also a great opportunity to do a little shopping and pick up some souvenirs in the Trossachs Woollen Mill before heading onwards through the Trossachs.
The Lade Inn & Loch Lubnaig
Our next stop is for lunch at the Lade Inn. Established in 1935 at the cost of only £750 for the building and an additional £250 for all the furniture making it quite the bargain in todays money.
The Lade Inn is a traditional pub with fantastic ales that are made onsite in their micro brewery and the good news is if you really like the beer you can buy some to take home with you in their Real Ale shop. The food at The Lade Inn is some of the finest available in the area with father & son run business the attention to detail in the traditional pub grub if very rarely equalled. From freshly made soups every day to the traditional Haggis Neeps & Tatties there is something for everyone to enjoy here including some lovely vegan & vegetarian options.
After our hearty lunch its time to take a short drive to one of the best kept secrets in Scotland, Loch Lubnaig. Loch Lubnaig is not a loch often visited by tourists and more one for the locals to come and enjoy with paddle boarding and wild swimming happening here on a daily basis. We will come and take some time to enjoy the fresh air and the incredible scenery that surrounds the Loch. For those of you who would like to try our national drink, you will be offered a fine Single Malt Whisky to really savour and enjoy your time here.
